CORAM ELEMENTARY'S OUTDOOR GALLERY
BRINGING THE CLASSROOM OUTSIDE
An empty courtyard at Coram Elementary School's primary building was a blank canvas waiting to be filled. With the vision and muscle of some teachers, school maintenance staff and help from local businesses, The Art Garden Gallery went into bloom.
WHY?
The importance of art education in the development of a child's overall personality and skills is undeniable. Still, when it comes to budget cuts, art programs are usually the first things that are discontinued in the schools. Do what you can to help keep art education in your schools, its benefits are emotionally and academically invaluable.
THE GOAL
Exposing Kindergarten & 1st grade students to the skills involved in:
Seeing- the observation of the world around them and gaining inspiration to create art so they can connect what they see with what they do.
Making- creating art pieces and communicating with the world through their work.
Appreciating- students being able to appreciate the existence of art in our world.
